Is It Possible to Get a Night Nurse Covered by Insurance? (Hint: Yes!)

In Rhode Island, it is possible to have a night nurse covered by insurance, and it’s easier to do than you might think! At Baby Bloom Newborn Care, we’ve already helped mothers take advantage of doula insurance reimbursement, and we want to help you too.

That’s why we created this step-by-step guide to help you get your night nurse covered by insurance.

What Is a Night Nurse?

A newborn care specialist, formally known as a night nurse, tends to all of the baby’s needs while working overnight. Our newborn care specialists do everything you’d do to care for your infant during the night:

  • Bathing

  • Soothing

  • Diaper changing

  • Bottle feeding and preparation (breastmilk and formula)

  • Baby laundry

  • Nursery tidying

  • Parent education

  • Emotional support

  • Schedule creation and support

  • Stocking nursery advice and assistance

These are just a few of the overnight care services a newborn care specialist provides.

Since we’ve been doing this every single day for years, we know what it takes to properly care for your infant and are here to help you. We even help teach seasoned parents how to best care for their newborns in ways they didn’t think possible.

Step 1 - Contact Your Insurance Provider

Now that you know what a night nurse is and what services they provide, it’s time to get started!

In order to take advantage of insurance reimbursement, you have to have insurance inside the state of Rhode Island. This can be through a private insurance company or Medicaid.

Talk to your representative and ask them about the doula services covered by insurance and what they need from you to get it done. Once they confirm they have to provide this reimbursement to you, it’s time to move to step 2.

Step 2 - Find a Reputable Night Doula

The Rhode Island bill only covers doulas that are professionally trained and qualified to perform the doula services. The state is working on creating a statewide registry of qualified doulas, but you’ll have to do your own research in the meantime.

Make sure when you start talking with night doulas, or nanny agencies, you ask them if they’ve had a night nurse covered by insurance before. If not, you may want to work with another agency that has already gone through the process, and been approved, like Baby Bloom Newborn Care.

Be sure to read our full guide on how to find the right overnight nanny near you to learn about everything we couldn’t fit here.

Step 3 - Talk to Insurance Again

Now that you found your night nurse, it’s time to go back to your insurance company and provide them with the information needed on your night nurse. There’s going to be a ton of paperwork to file, but don’t get overwhelmed.

You will have to pay your night nurse first, and then your insurance company will be the ones to pay you back. That’s the reimbursement part of the deal. At Baby Bloom Newborn Care, we are happy to help you with everything your insurance company needs.

All you need to do is schedule a free consultation with us, and we’ll walk through all of the paperwork requirements.

Step 4 - Submit Paperwork and Relax!

Now that you’ve hired your night nurse and have made your first payment, you get to submit the paperwork to get your money back!

We are here to support you during every step of the way, so don’t be afraid to reach out and let us help you!

This Seems Too Good to Be True…

We know that getting money back from your insurance company always seems too good to be true. But, the reality is that we’ve already helped mothers take advantage of this Rhode Island law.

Overnight care is now more affordable for many families, and we’re so thankful to the Rhode Island lawmakers that made this possible!
