RECENT WORK EXPERIENCE
DT Family - Overnight Care
Assisted family in developing a night time routine so baby R started have a distinction from night vs day. Suggestions included: bath time/ sponge baths, soft to the touch/ cozy PJs, feedings in low light with white noise, shushing/ rocking to sleep. R has frequent spit up after feedings, we worked together on how to keep his meals down. Also, baby is a noisy sleeper and I made an effort to reassure and check for open eyes and hunger cues before assuming he is ready for next night time feed. Tasks included; providing a listening ear, bottle preparation, laundry, simple tidying up.
ST Family - Overnight Care
Baby A was looking for extra comfort while sleeping and did not wish to be disturbed during feedings/ diaper changes. Therefore I suggested a certain swaddle that would provide minimal disturbance. Teachings in showing how we can help A differ night from day were provided. Tasks included; showing swaddling techniques, relevant local resources, breakfast preparation, taking over night time care 100% so parents can be well rested and ready to take on the next day.
DC - Daytime Doula Care
After deciding to not continue nursing, I provided the proper education for formula and bottle feeding safety. Tasks included bottle preparation, nursery organization, showing various swaddling techniques, providing recommendations for the following; parent groups, music and story times, pediatricians, daycares, and nannies. Additional tasks for household also were partaking in local errands, cooking and baking. Mother and father worked from home so I was solely tending to baby S during those hours where they were occupied with meetings. Sdeveloped an eczema rash which was worrisome to parents. I provided a listening ear and ensured them to contact their pediatrician and carry on with the care instructions that were given. Rash went away in due time.
KR - Daytime Doula Care
With an easier birth and having a partner present, mom found herself enjoying this postpartum experience more than the last. Our first conversation post birth was about formula and her hesitancy with it, she felt guilty for not attempting breastfeeding due to her failed attempts for C (sibling). While providing emotional support for her, I also did for her partner, whom was having troubles adjusting to the fatherhood of two children. I help develop shared times with each child for both parent, in order to give balance between newborn and toddler needs. I also act as a mediator between the couple (sleep patterns are still being learned which creates stress on both working parents) by weighing pros and cons, putting one in other shoes, and letting them see each other in a new light.
EM - Daytime Doula Care
Returning for our second postpartum journey together, I began assisting E one week after M’s birth. With me, I brought a small care package of products that she enjoyed having after her first birth perinatal cream, comfortable underwear, a new lightweight water bottle, etc]. I mainly assisted with sibling care [1 yr], healing circumcision guidance for M, and had E get familiar with her pump. I also did household tasks again like laundry and meal prep, while also assisting in packing and organizing because they were moving into a new house within the next month.
NL - Daytime Doula Care
With a dramatic first birth experience because of separation between mom and H (sibling, now age 2.5yr), mom found herself surprised to have a completely laid back, average labor. She was able to bond and breastfeed successfully in the hospital with no interruptions, which successfully prepared her to go home. The short labor, bonding and breastfeeding success did wonders for her postpartum state. mom felt confident and ready to leap into the motherhood of two. We had a virtual call the morning after her birth, in which we discussed her birth story, her hospital stay, her feeding concerns, and the plan to go home. Virtual visits continued throughout the week and served to remind mom of feeding cues to be aware and to instruct correct baby wearing. We also talked about breast fullness and relief remedies, hand expression, and tips regarding the adjustments H might experience with her baby sister. Once we met in person, mom was more open to express her worries. I reviewed belly button care and what irritation/ infection looks like in the case it appears, We also discussed how she, the new baby, and the rest of the family are sleeping after their arrival home.
TC - Daytime Doula Care
The tasks that were required for T (mom) and M (baby girl) were more of an informational and resource nature. I led T through the beginning of her pumping and bottle feeding journey. After providing an abundance of helpful information and resources, T was able to create a feeding routine that was the perfect fit for her family. Other tasks I performed included nursery organization, baby laundry, help with meal and bottle preparation, and taking baby for walks while she showered or napped.
